Our Web Redesign Process: What to Expect
If you’ve never been through a formal redesign process, there’s a lot to understand about what to expect. What we typically include as part of our services include:
- Initial Discovery Phase – We start our redesign process by listening to your current site challenges and what your goals are with the new site. Some challenges that we have heard from some of our clients that has led them to wanting a redesign include the lack of the ability to update their site, the design not being mobile-friendly, outdated design, and them not loving the current website software, and more. We’ll be sure to follow up with any other questions we need answered so that we can move into the design phase and provide photomock-ups that emulate the site in both mobile and desktop.
- Design Phase – There are two stages when it comes to our design process. There is a wireframing stage and a mockup stage. Wireframing is a rough look of the layout of key pages on your site. This is done without any graphics or colors. Once approved, then we’ll create mockups via Photoshop and showcase what the site will look like once it’s live. We’ll mock it up as a photo or PDF, present the designs, and walk you through these to address any questions or adjustments that you may have.
- Sitemap Planning – This is where our team will reshape the structure of your website’s main navigation. We’ll create a hierarchy of the pages that make the most sense to improve the user experience and get people to the area of the site where they are most interested in. There is also a consideration of SEO where we ensure that the structure is drawing people to your site from search engines.
- Development – We then take your design and integrate it into your site content management software (WordPress or Shopify). Our team works to make sure that the site aligns with the mockups and also populates the site with your existing content and graphics, or content you agree to have our team write.
- Testing and review – We’ll present the site to you (with a link to our development server that is hidden from search engines) and walk you through the key areas on the site. Your team will review the site and provide any necessary edits or feedback. We’ll move to the final phase, which is the launch of the site, once we get your approval.
- Site Launch – Our team will take the appropriate steps to migrate the files from the development site to the live environment. Typically the files, graphics, and database of pages are moved. We’ll be sure to run through our launch checklist, reviewing key elements to finalize things, and also preserve any SEO equity that your previous iteration of your site had.
