Google has released a significant update to its shopping experience ahead of the holiday season, and it’s one that online shoppers and ecommerce brands should be paying close attention to this year.

This new update gives users more opportunities to use AI automation for discovery, comparison, and presentation within Google Shopping, Search, and, most recently, on the Gemini app!

Three New AI-Enhanced Features to Keep an Eye Out for This December

Below are some of the enhancements Google has started rolling out in the past month. Just promise us you won’t go searching for a Red Ryder BB gun… you’ll shoot your eye out!

1. Conversational Shopping in AI Mode

Google has upgraded its AI Mode to help users find the right search queries and avoid having to manually add filters by letting them describe what they’re looking for, just as they would to a friend.

  • Natural Language Shopping – You can prompt AI Mode with things like, “Show me funny but festive sweaters for a Christmas party,” or “What is the best face wash for a teenager with sensitive skin?”
  • Revitalized Visual Results – Using Google Shopping’s results from 50+ billion product listings, you’ll then see shoppable products with enhancements like comparison tables, pricing, and even real-person reviews, right in the search results.

2. “Let Google Call” Feature for Local In-Store Availability

One of the best new features Google rolled out just might save you a trip to the stores while they’re at their busiest! Google’s AI can now call local stores for you to check inventory for specific products.

When users search for certain products and add “near me,” they’ll see a “Let Google Call” option. Google will then make automated calls to nearby stores to verify stock, pricing, and promotions on the shopper’s behalf. After they finish the call, users will get an email or text summary of the conversations with the findings!

3. Automated Price Tracking and Checkout

Have too much going on to keep track of price drops? Let an AI agent handle the price-watching for you!

  • Track the Product You Want – You can track specific items, even down to your desired size, color, and price, and Google will notify you when the price drops into your desired range.
  • See a Variety of Merchants to Automatically Buy From – The option to use agentic checkout is available from select Shopify merchants and other popular stores in the U.S., like Wayfair, Chewy, and Quince.
