Warning: A Google Core Update Is Due Any Day Now!

Have you noticed things have been a little too quiet from Google lately? This usually means they’re cooking up something big behind the scenes. So, any day now, Google could release the next big update that will shake up your keyword rankings.

Here are some things you should know as we await the next broad core update.

What Experts Think the Next Core Update Will Target

Based on past updates and thoughts from experts such as Lily Ray, our SEO Director Brian Gorman has shared some insights on what the next broad core update will likely target:

Quick Refresher: 2024–2025 Update Timeline

To understand where we’re headed, let’s review some patterns Google has created with their update timeline:

  • June 2025: June 30 – July 17 (16 days)
  • March 2025: March 13–27 (14 days)
  • December 2024: December 12–18 (6 days)
  • November 2024: November 11 – December 5 (23 days)
  • August 2024: August 15 – September 3 (19 days)
  • March 2024: March 5 – April 19 (45 days)

As you can see, 2024 had four updates, with two toward the end of the year. If Google follows its own footsteps, we may be in for more updates before 2026 rolls around.

What Should You Do to Prepare?

With any core update, it’s important to focus on SEO fundamentals:

  1. Do a Content Audit – Be on the lookout for outdated content that is thin and low quality. Focus on ensuring it aligns with standard E-E-A-T principles: experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness.
  2. Check Your User Experience – Evaluate your site’s speed, mobile-friendliness, and general usability for users who come to your site.
  3. Keep an Eye on Your Data – Keep a close eye on your Google Search Console and analytics reports for any sudden drops or spikes in impressions, clicks, or rankings over the coming weeks.
