Hello! Let me introduce myself. My name is Samantha Riley, but most people just call me Sam. I work at Sixth City Marketing as an intern. Unlike most internships that provide one focus area, Sixth City has exposed me to so many. It’s hard to keep track!
Coding has been one of my favorite things I have learned while interning with Sixth City Marketing. When John first introduced me to it, I thought there was no way I would ever understand it. I was happily mistaken. John taught me the basics and I learned how to set off paragraphs and create headlines and sub headlines. I was exposed to divs, CSS, and inline styling.
After that I couldn’t get enough. I went on to learn about floating elements. Once I mastered this, I was able to align elements next to one another. Although I am far from a coding expert, I enjoy what I have learned and cannot wait to see what comes next.
Sixth City Marketing has taught me many things I would not learn from a textbook. John introduced me to the importance of search engine optimization, something my professors have never spoken to me about. As a graphic designer, I can create a website, but what good is it if no one can find it?
In other classes, I feel as if I already have an upper hand. I took a class on coding, for example, and I found that much of what I was learning was repetitive from what John had already taught me.
The knowledge I gained from interning at Sixth City doesn’t end there. I have been able to create pay-per-click ads, sitemaps, landing pages, and so much more.
The atmosphere in the office is also terrific. The team has been welcoming, and they are as eager to teach as I am to learn. The experiences I have gained are one of a kind, and I cannot wait to see where they will go next.
